I have a rather large announcement to make today. Something that I’ve been dying to get off my chest for a bit now actually and this coupled with other things that have happened here in the happy land of all things A Fashionable Stitch are the primary reasons I haven’t blogged as much usual.

So anyway, today I have a treat for you. There’s a free class at Craftsy with your name on it. That’s right, your name. on. it. I taught the class and can I just state for the record, there is something completely unnerving about watching yourself on tv, or the internet as the case maybe. It’s surreal. It’s weird. It’s uncanny. I can’t get over it. Whatever. We shot the classes in November and Craftsy did their crafty thing and put it all together for you in a wonderful little package and its on……. Zipper Insertions! Hip Hip Hooray! The official name of the class is Mastering Zipper Techniques and I go through, step by step, how to insert a slot seam, invisible and lapped zipper all by machine. Plus there’s a class on how to handle the slot seam and invisible zipper with a lined/faced garment. I think there’s something in there for everyone. Even if you’re an intermediate sewer, its always fun to see how someone else does something, right? I think you’ll all enjoy yourselves and hopefully pick up a tip or two along the way. I had a ball doing it all!

And if nothing else, now you can experience what I sound like. And then you can ask yourself, “Wow, does she really sound like that?” To which I would say, “That’s funny. I asked myself the exact same thing.” And I did. Like I said, it’s different watching yourself on tv. Oh, how do movie stars do it? So hop on over to Craftsy and Zipper out! Don’t forget, this class is FREE! That’s right, I said FREE FREE FREE! Knock yourselves out! Yay!

Can I geek out for just a minute more too with y’all? I don’t know if I’ve ever stated this, but my absolute, hands down, favorite movie of all time is Bridget Jones’s Diary. I’m totally silly like that. So, on my plane trip to Denver to shoot this class guess what exploded in my bag – why my BLUE chalk pen of course. It wasn’t the white one or the pink one, no it was the blue one. And there was blue on nearly all of my sewing supplies that I brought for the taping. Yup. Blue. Blue soup. My god, is that blue soup/chalk pen? Why yes, yes it is. Thank you. Very. Much.

“Do I really sound like that?”

In case you think I’ve been sitting on my duff, I haven’t. I’ve been so busy with extras this season (which, to be perfectly candid, I’m rather mad at myself for taking WAY too much on) and so I’ve been trying to keep up with stuff and sadly, the blog is always the first thing to suffer when my world starts going up in flames. Sorry about that! I do promise to be much better in the future.

Anyways, just in case you think the Everyday Wardrobe was a short-lived thing, its not. I’ve actually been hard at work on a rub-off of my mom’s old boyfriend jacket. I cut the lovely jacket out of a cherry brown ponte knit and at this time am deciding whether or not to partially line it. I’m thinking yes, in a silk charmeuse – which PS if you don’t have Connie Long’s Easy Guide to Linings, you absolutely NEED it! It’s an amazing little book! One of the best books I own I think! In addition, this is not just some fly by night jacket. It’s meant to be paired with this NWG – a real NWG from me old closet.

Now that I’ve got you a little caught up to date with a bit about me and my nutty life at the moment, I thought I would mention that Steph at 3hourspast is having a pre-sale for her very first pattern. It’s a dress……made from KNIT! That’s right folks. Doesn’t it look fabulous? Not to mention, this is sooooooooo everyday wardrobe friendly. Go snap one up NOW! Do have a gander over to Steph’s blog too, where she’s been talking about how to dress for your everyday for a whole bunch longer than I have – it’s so refreshing! Enjoy!

Thanks to everyone who entered! This giveaway is officially closed! Winner to be announced next week!

I have a serious back log of projects to show you guys. Serious back log. Let’s see, you guys still haven’t seen my 2nd finished swimsuit and then there’s a blouse and skirt combo I’ve been needing to photograph and I just did a rub off of a cardigan and well, the list goes on. It’s been a tad busy around here. I’m teaching. I’m making healthy lunches for my mister who’s just gone and enrolled himself in school and all that (I know, crazy right?) and I’ve been working at Yellow Bird too. You should come in and I’ll help you buy fabric! I’m quite good at it, if I do say so myself because I want it all too. Yeah. I’m very bad to fabric shop with, but you should come in nonetheless and we’ll have fun designing your fall wardrobe.

Anyway, it’s been so long since I held a giveaway here, that I had almost forgotten that I could hold a giveaway. Life seems to get in the way of me remembering fun things like this. But this time I did remember. I just helped finish up the last round of pattern testing for Colette Patterns - great patterns are coming soon! – and Sarai very generously gave us all a credit to the online shop. I usually purchase patterns wholesale from Colette these days – because of the shop – and so it didn’t seem quite fair to use the credit for that. So one of you lucky ducks is going to get it.

Let’s see. All you have to do is tell me the #1 project you want to make for fall this year. That’s easy, right? Just leave it in the comments. I’m going to tell you what I want to make for fall. Are you ready for this? Jeans. For myself. I purchased Jalie 2908. I’m ready. I have stretch denim on its way. I’m opting for a muslin. I’m just about to trace off the pattern. This is serious. I’ve even got rivets and a jean button. You just wait.

OK, so giveaway time!
the Rules: Leave a comment on this post telling me the #1 project you want to make for fall this year
Giveaway ends: September 6, 2012 at 12:00 pm
the Prize: Colette Patterns credit for $25

May the best fall project win!
xoxo,

I have some official news which I’m rather excited to share today! I’ll be teaching at Sewing Summit 2012! I’m terribly excited about this. I think its pretty fabulous that a sewing event of any sort be held in Utah, let alone one that involves both garment sewing and quilting. Yay! We’ll be constructing a top and by the end of the session you should be able to take home your finished garment and wear it. It should be especially fun for those who are thinking about crossing over from quilting and want to try their hand at garment sewing and for those who are beginners who have a few garments under their belt. I’m also planning on putting together several tutorials from now until October for how to achieve several variations of the top. For those interested, I’ll be posting more on what top pattern and such in upcoming posts.

Are you attending Sewing Summit? Sarai and Mena will be there. And it would only be too fun to organize a meet-up for an evening. Are you in?

Colette Patterns Spring/Summer patterns are now available – I die! Sarai asked me to give a mention when the patterns debuted – which I’m delighted to oblige as I’m also an avid pattern tester for Colette. Aren’t they just wonderful?

I had the pleasure of testing out Hazel. Believe me when I tell you that I’m surprised at how easy it is, yet how simply marvelous it looks. I’m especially keen on the striped version. Don’t you just love stripes? Plus there’s pockets and a summer dress just isn’t complete without pockets, I think.

The Iris shorts are so sweet and they look positively wonderful and easy to wear. And is that lining I see peeking out? I do so hope so. The perfect accompaniment for a bike ride through the park.

Last, but definitely not least – Lily! What a great frock for a date with the mister. And, oh me oh my, what is this I see? Why a vent! Now, I can definitely tell you, without any reservation, after revamping vent tutorials, I’m very happy to see this little number on this little dress. Yay! Another thing that makes me rather happy – both dresses, Lily and Hazel can be worn with a regular old bra. That’s big in my book. What about yours?

Friends, these patterns are available today through Colette and will be available soon through A Fashionable Stitch! Excitement abounds – bring on Spring & Summer! What’s your favorite?

This might be a weird post, but sometimes I just feel like ranting a little. Personal stuff piles up and sometimes, its just fun to sit back, talk about it and let it out.

I tried oil cleansing and broke out like a mother – not that mothers break out, but I’m telling you it was something fierce – think acne cysts breakout. And this after I had read all these good things about it. Yeah, that wasn’t good. I’m not saying that it might not be good for you, but for me….Oi. I’m still reaping the aftermath.

I doubt I’ve said anything, but I picked up a part-time job several months ago. I still work on the shop, but you know, we needed a little extra income too. So I work with middle school kids – a rather unbalanced age group. I mean, you and I have both been there, so we know this. These kids give me a run for my money, I’ll admit. There’s a girl – a well meaning girl – who takes it upon herself, everyday, to tell me whether or not my outfit matches. Most days I fail, by the way. I also get asked rather often by several of the kids, whether or not I’m a vampire – to which I always reply in the affirmative, after which everyone asks to get bitten. Sigh.

I’ve been told that I’m a “ginger.” Which apparently is a South Park reference for redheads. Also means I’m evil, I think? It feels so good to be….bad.

Admittedly I’ve needed a pair of jeans for some time now and I’ve been too busy with other projects to make any myself. So I went to the Gap and bought myself a pair…………which need to be altered. That’s OK, right? RIGHT? Did I mention they were full price jeans? I give you full leave to laugh at me.

PS ~ This is not the tattoo I’m contemplating btw, it’s just a photo. That’s all.

I’ve been seriously contemplating a tattoo for my upcoming birthday. I’ve been seriously surprised at how many serious opinions people have about tattoos. It’s definitely a love or hate situation. And many who love tattoos believe that you should only get tattoos of certain things in certain places. I really want this tattoo that I’ve decided on, but I’m not sure that I’m up for a lifetime of, “What does your tattoo mean/represent?”

And with that, dear friends, I feel so much better about the upcoming week! What a relief to get all this stuff off my chest! Now, you know what’s going on here behind the scenes. I’ll be back with more sewing goodness tomorrow! Yay!

Me and my ginger self are just about to alter those jeans now…
Ta!

Dearest Friends, thank you all so much for entering the Sew Grateful Giveaway! For those of you who didn’t get a chance to enter, there’ll be more giveaways in the future. Promise. It’s time to pick a winner! Yay! Drumroll please!
Thanks for entering Jody! Your little bundle of sewing love will be on its way to you very shortly. Loves, I do so hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! I did! Can you believe that Mr. S actually played one of my favorite Valentine tunes and danced with me to it? We also had soup and watched Voyager – I’m turning into a total Trekee. We’re also headed out for a full mini-break holiday weekend come this Saturday (I’m a total Bridget Jones die-hard). I also laid around on Monday and Tuesday reading silly Harlequin Romances while Mr. S tortured me to no end for my ridiculousness. I’m a nut, what can I say? A complete romantic fool. Sigh. For all you silly romantics out there, here’s something for your pleasure – I read only the most naughty vintage Harlequins and here’s what was at the end of my last one:
