I cannot live without this dress! What will I do? It’s pure perfection. I just received the March Anthropologie Catalog and as I flipped through the pages thinking this and that looked nice, I inevitably landed on page 77, on which was featured this rendition of my dreams. To you this may seem silly, but to me it is life and death with a belt included. Oh my goodness! What will I do without this dress? I cannot permit myself to buy such a cotton frivolity for $158. How could I possibly face my public after that? It’s purely criminal. I’m sure to make it is the answer. I know its the answer. But oh the pain and toil and that only to find the right fabric. Someone slay me please! It is too much!

Ideas anyone? It seems a little 1950-ish what with that belt and the full skirt and all. It might be kind of fun to try and construct my own pattern for this. Or I could take the bodice from this pattern and give it a simple full skirt. Hmmmm….. but the fabric again. Where could I even begin to find such perfection? Would rather have it in silk of course. Ha.
I do believe Spring Fever is on the mend, so beware that you catch it and are inspired for your perfect Spring wardrobe. Happy Weekending Lovelies!

AnaJan - The bodice looks like a bodice of the Coffee Date Dress by The Selfish Seamstress (aka Elainemay) downloadable from BurdaStyle (as you already know, I believe)

You’d only need to deepen the neckline a bit.
The skirt looks like a tube gathered at the waistline. I’m sure you’ll manage to knock it off.
Good luck!
Angela - I saw this dress on their website the other day. It’s so cute! Silk would definitely nice! I agree with AnaJan’s suggestion. Good luck with it!!
Jenny - Oh, my dear. The Anthropologie Catalog threw me into a fit this week too. It’s just EVIL pure evil!
There are a few dresses in there that I can’t live without… but must.
Selfish Seamstress - Yep- as others have said, the skirt is a dirndl- just a big rectangle gathered along one side, and you can tell because it’s a border print. The bodice looks quite simple and I’m sure you could appropriate it from any number of commercial patterns. Unfortunately really nice border print fabrics that don’t look too quilt-y are awfully hard to find- I’ve looked before. I’ll let you know if I run across anything helpful- it’s a lovely dress and would look so good on you!
Caroline - Hi, thanks for your sweet comment on my blog!
You could make this dress so easily… I actually have a few vintage patterns in this exact style, I’m sure you can find one, or just draft a plain bodice top (sure you can find one burdstyle etc) and just use a gathered rectangle as the bottom.
Good luck
Kathleen Cooper - What a pretty dress – I would covet it too! I’m sure you can make somthing like it.
lucky - have you seen the spring fabrics at Jo-Anns they have a floral pattern similar to the poppies, it just came out but half the bolt was gone when I was there. good luck!
Abby - I’m so glad you feel the same way! We must be sisters or something! Such a fabulous dress!
DreinPA - Perhaps New Look 6457 view E?
Jennifer - I am a sucker for poppy prints and this almost makes me want to spend a fortune to get this shipped to Canada.
But the neckline on this frock will not work for me so my money stays in the pocketbook.
Find your fabric first then the pattern will follow. This has served me well for the last 20 years so I do not doubt it. The universe will provide!
